Spotting suspicious listings

Scams often depend on urgency and confusion. Slow the conversation down whenever the story, identity or payment request does not make sense.

Warning signs

• The price or location changes immediately after contact.
• Someone demands a deposit before answering basic questions.
• Payment is requested through gift cards, cryptocurrency or an unrelated account.
• The sender asks for an OTP, password, card details or a photograph of an identity document.
• Photographs, names and phone numbers do not appear to belong together.

If you are uncertain

Do not send more money or personal information. Keep the page address and non-sensitive evidence, block threatening contacts and speak to your payment provider promptly if a transaction has already occurred.
